Madi, the Venda name for water, is situated just off the famous Route 62 (R62) in the forgotten secluded valley in the Little Karoo, one of the most bio diverse regions of South Africa and nestles between the Swartberg Mountains and the mighty Outeniqua mountains just outside Oudtshoorn.

Madi-Madi Karoo Safari Lodge is a privately owned game and nature reserve in the wilderness of stillness with breath-taking beauty and timeless allure. It offers 13km of river frontage along the Kammanassie River, named by the Khoisan people and meaning 'mountain of water'. The area enjoys year-round rainfall and every spring, Mother Nature parades her exquisite beauty with a miracle when the fynbos scrubs vegetation bursts into colourful bloom. The water levels of the Kammanassie River does change depending on the time of the year and the amount of rainfail the area enjoys. A little more than an hour away from this Karoo Lodge, are attractions such as the culture-rich town of Oudtshoorn, Swartberg Mountain Nature Reserve, Cango Caves, Ostrich Farms, Cango Wildlife Range and the Gamkaskloof Valley (also known as “Die Hell”).
Madi-Madi was originally developed as a private holiday getaway in 2010 by Lood Bester and his partner. Arnold Neethling, owner of Botlierskop Private Game Reserve, joined forces with Lood Bester in 2013 and they decided to share this unique game and nature reserve experience with superb Karoo accommodation with the rest of the world.
